How do shipping warmers actually produce heat?

Shipping warmers produce heat through a safe and contained chemical reaction. In this reaction oxygen causes the iron powder in the heat pack to oxidize. This oxidization produces the heat that can be felt after the bag has be exposed to the air for a prolonged period of time. Uniheat brand heat packs contain iron powder, water, wood powder, activated carbon, vermiculite, and salt. All of these contents are environmentally safe.

How does one use heat packs to properly ship aquatics?

Heat packs are simple to use. However, there are a few things to remeber. Never keep the shipping warmer in direct contact with the bags containing your prized aquatic pets. Prolonged contact will definitely cause stress. Many invertebrates and tropical fish will not tolerate the extra heat and it may lead to death. Thus make sure the product is properly affixed in your shipping container, this will insure that we stablize the environment to the best of our ability. It is typically best to tape your warmer to the top of the lid. Make sure that the red line on the heat pak is facing down as this line represents an area where perforations have been made in the polyehylene film that contains the active ingredients. Placing the heat pack with the red line facing downwards insures its ability to consume oxygen and continue to produce heat. Also remember to bag your inverts and tropical fish well as shipping warmer will not function wet. One must remeber that heat packs are a tool hobbyists & wholesalers use to give ourselves the best chance to make a sucessful delivery.

However, they are not the magic bullet. There are many factors to take into consideration when shipping aquatic pets. These can be the weather, the day you drop off your product for delivery, how the aquatic pets are packaged and more. Please stop at our shipping guide section to learn more. They are ideal for winter sports, outdoor activities and emergency situations.
